BJJ Fundamentals
Although open to everyone we recommend beginners attend this class before regular classes. It is an excellent introduction to BJJ, especially for those with no background in martial arts. Covered during the class are all the general principals of BJJ and some of the fundamental techniques within the art. There is no sparring in this class. The fundamentals class is a gi class.
Gi classes
These are classes undertaken wearing the gi. Grips and techniques such as chokes or sweeps can utilise the uniform we wear. Gi jiu-jitsu is often described as more technical, however it is more that the nature of the gi and the grips give you more options and also can slow the pace of the match. Grading is done with the gi, so you will wear different coloured belts depending on your grade.
no-gi classes
No gi or ‘submission wrestling’ is where training is done without the gi, in rash guards and shorts or similar. No gi is growing in popularity as the matches tend to be faster paced and favour rulesets that allow for a wider variety of joint locks, especially leg locks. It is also favoured by people training for the sport of MMA.
open mat classes
Open mat is for members only. This is where you can come and train the techniques you’d like to work on or do some sparring rounds. It is an informal session, and could be either gi or no gi.
